About 1827 Sqn

Formed in Nov 2009 as a Detached Flight (DF) of 2412 (Bordon & District) Sqn, we grew very fast and in Nov 2011 we became 1827 (Odiham) Sqn and had our formal Banner Blessing on Air Cadet Sunday 2012.

We meet Mondays and Thursdays, however given our location on the base at RAF Odiham you cannot just pop in. If you want to visit please send us an email or call using the details at the top of the page.

The Staff – All our staff undergo strict vetting, in fact the ACO is one of a handful of bodies that require CRB checks every 5yrs. ALL staff must attend a “basic” course within 12 months of joining which covers the child protection act amongst others. Uniformed staff must also attend a week long course within 12months at RAF Cranwell with further development and individual specialist training for their chosen core subjects. Our staff are made up of ex-cadets, ex-forces and parents.

Officer Commanding – Flight Lieutenant Ian Bruce

Flt Lt  Bruce joined the ATC in 2005 as a Civilian Instructor, before being promoted through the enlisted ranks up to Flight Sergeant in 2006. In 2008 Ian was commissioned into the VRT Officer branch of the ATC and has commanded squadrons in the past before moving to Odiham in 2015.

Ian’s specialisms include Adventure Training, modelling and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

Deputy Officer Commanding/Training Officer – Pilot Officer Stefan Dunkerley

Plt Off Dunkerley joined the ATC in 2010 as a cadet, before being eventually promoted to the highest cadet rank of Cadet Warrant Officer in 2013. During his time as a cadet, he was the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Her Majesty’s representative in the county of Hampshire, has flown in the Queen’s birthday flypast, and has been to the USA as part of the International Air Cadet exchange.

After aging out of cadets at 20, he commissioned as an Officer in 2016, and has been at Odiham ever since. Stefan specialises in Adventure Training, the DofE Award scheme, flying and training/academics.
